Design of stamping and forming dies

Bending, trimming, levelling, calibrating and piercing tools as well as fine blanking dies, designed for stable series processes and predictable tool life.

A forming die does not just have to produce one part, it has to produce the ten-thousandth part in the same quality. That is why force distribution, springback, guidance and tool life are at the centre of the design, together with the question of whether the die can be maintained in daily operation.

Die types and building blocks

Bending tools

Layout with springback compensation, defined stops and maintainable bending inserts.

Trimming & piercing tools

Cutting clearance, punch guidance and stripper concept for clean cut surfaces.

Levelling & calibrating tools

Producing flatness and dimensional accuracy in the process instead of correcting it later.

Fine blanking dies

Design for fine blanking presses with vee-ring, counter punch and high cut surface quality.

Guidance & tool life

Die sets, guide bushings, material and coating selection matched to your batch sizes.

Maintenance & spare parts

Wear parts designed so they can be replaced without dismantling the entire die.

Typical scope

Reference values from completed die projects. Edge cases are assessed individually.

Materials
Steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass, spring steel
Sheet thickness
typically 0.2 – 6 mm
Die types
Single, follow-on, progressive and fine blanking dies
Presses
Eccentric, hydraulic and fine blanking presses
Batch sizes
Small series to high volume

A forming and trimming die was designed for a large front panel. Springback and distortion over the full part length were the critical factors.

  • Forming steps distributed to keep distortion under control
  • Trimming moved to a separate station to reduce burr
  • Wear zones designed as replaceable inserts

What you receive

  • Die concept including stage and force review
  • Complete 3D die design
  • Bill of materials including standard and wear parts
  • Production drawings for toolmaking and EDM
