Progressive die design services

Strip layout, station sequence and die concept from one source, for economical series production in steel, stainless steel and non-ferrous metals.

In a progressive die the strip layout determines material cost, cycle time and process reliability. That is why every project starts with the station sequence: what is pierced when, where is the material formed, how is the strip kept in position and where is the part cut free?

What the die concept includes

Strip layout

Station sequence, feed length, web widths and material utilisation, the basis of every costing.

Pilots & guidance

Strip guidance, pilot pins and side cutters ensure a repeatable position in every station.

Forming and cutting stations

Forming work distributed over several stages so neither material nor die is overloaded.

Scrap & part ejection

Air blow-off, ejectors and scrap chutes are designed in, not improvised afterwards.

Monitoring

Sensors for strip position, carrier web and part ejection to secure automatic operation.

Die set

Pillar set, parting lines and insert technology matched to press and planned volume.

Typical scope

Reference values from designed progressive dies.

Materials
Steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass, spring steel
Sheet thickness
typically 0.2 – 4 mm
Stations
typically 4 – 20 stages
Strip feed
Roll feed, gripper feed
Output
Small series up to several million parts per year

A multi-stage progressive die was designed for a coin cell clip made from thin spring strip. The requirement was high output with a tight contact geometry.

  • Strip layout optimised for minimum scrap
  • Forming distributed over several stages to avoid cracking
  • Contact area secured in a separate calibrating stage

What you receive

  • Strip layout with station sequence and material utilisation
  • Complete 3D die design
  • Bill of materials with standard, active and wear parts
  • Production drawings including wire and sinker EDM data
